BURGER HUNT PT. 8: Chuckbox 

Some might say this is a Tempe INSTITUTION! Some might say nothing. Well, what do I have to say?

I think Chuckbox is a neat little place, cash only, old, wood-fired grill. 

Bryan said these burgers are “home-style burgers,” I agree. They are burgers anyone can make at home. My mom made burgers just like this …

Chuckbox does offer a “toppings bar” with all of the sauces, peppers, lettuce tomatoes, so it is a build your own burger experience. Which is cool, but personally, that’s not for me. I like it when they bring it out how they bring it out. People are dumb and probably ruin their burgers with too much sauce or not enough.

I don’t think Chuckbox is worth the trip. If you live at ASU, then, of course, go to Chuck Box and enjoy it. BUT if you live in Phoenix, or anywhere that isn’t the middle of Tempe, you are better off going somewhere else.

The Control: 

Solid. This is the burger you had at your buddies bbq last weekend. You know, the buddy who buys his patty’s frozen and throws em on the grill. That’s this, but they use their own “Special ground beef.”

Crushable: 3

Holdability: 4

Size: 4

The Great Big One:

This is the ½ lb. Cheeseburger, the bigger patty, was offered a better flavor. I could taste the “special” in their ground beef here. Usually, I’m not a huge fan of thick patties, but thick is the way to go here.

The Bacon Cheeseburger: 

The bacon was decent, not worth the upcharge. Go with the burger above.
